Television piracy, 20 servers closed AMA report for 2024: Measures also for

In its 2024 report, the Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA), among other things, emphasizes that the vast majority of complaints about the violation of broadcasting rights are related to the phenomenon of television piracy carried out by entities not authorized by the AMA to provide audiovisual services. Specifically, these are ISP (Internet Service Provider) entities, which carry out television piracy via the internet without authorization from the AMA.

AMA, in cooperation with the AKEP institution, took measures to close more than 20 servers that were broadcasting audiovisual content without rights, and made it possible to sanction 3 ISP entities that operated in violation of the law by fining them with 5,000,000 lek each.

According to AMA, the phenomenon of television piracy carried out via the Internet is a phenomenon that is both disturbing and complicated to identify, because in most cases the audiovisual product that is broadcast abusively comes from servers in different countries of the world but also from servers that operate in the territory of Albania. As for the servers that were found in our country, 20 of them were closed.

Also, for 2024, AMA forwarded 37 official practices to AKEP, with the aim of taking measures to close 346 online pages that violated Law 97/2013, as amended. Regarding this phenomenon, the Directorate of Inspection and Supervision requested various Video Sharing Platforms (VSPs) to remove from their accounts 1,539 links that broadcast audiovisual products without broadcasting rights.

Of these, thanks to the collaboration with the TikTok platform, 1,513 videos were reported for piracy in 2024, of which 1,505 were removed from the platform and 193 profiles were closed after being reported for pirated content.
