A step forward towards advanced technology - Albanian investment in Mira Murati's startup. A smart risk?
A 10 million euro investment from the state budget in Mira Murati's startup has attracted attention as a step forward towards advanced technology in Albania.
But, according to experts in the field, this funding should also be accompanied by concrete impact in the country, especially in the field of education.
"The government has taken a good step with this investment of 10 million euros, but I think that beyond this, it should have created the opportunity for this start-up to also look towards Albania, especially the education sector. In other words, this investment should have been focused on the educational future of this start-up in Albania," said Erion Nako, an IT expert.
Thinking Machines Lab was established in February of this year with a funding value of 2 billion euros, while today it is estimated at 10 billion euros. According to Mr. Nako, Albania's investment is modest to expect high profit.
"The game is not made for 10 or 15 million euros. When such investments are made, the amounts must be high. But in order to invest in start-ups, a start-up ecosystem must be established in Tirana. The Albanian government raises value by bringing the "Thinking Labs" model to Albania, " says Mr. Nako.
This startup came about after Mira Murati left OpenAI at the end of last year, while several IT engineers from OpenAI were also involved in the founding of Thinking Machines Lab.
