Border modernization reduces waiting times for businesses - Trade in the Balkans, project launches to digitize border points

Increasing the efficiency of regional trade and eliminating physical and bureaucratic barriers at the border is now a priority of the Ministry of Economy and Innovation. Through the "Trade and Transport Facilitation in the Western Balkans" project, Albania enters a new phase of modernization of the main trade corridors.
The focus of this investment, supported by the World Bank, is the implementation of advanced digital systems. This process aims to simplify customs procedures and reduce waiting times for transport vehicles, giving a breathing space to exporting and importing businesses.
Currently, the Ministry has made available to the public and stakeholders the "Stakeholder Engagement Plan" and the "Environmental and Social Engagement Plan". These documents guarantee that any infrastructure intervention will be carried out in accordance with the highest international standards, while maintaining environmental balances and involving local communities in decision-making.
In addition to improving physical infrastructure at border crossings, the project aims to strengthen institutional coordination between the Western Balkan countries. Regional integration is not seen only as a political goal, but as an economic necessity to create a larger and more attractive market for foreign investment.
The implementation of this project is expected to have a direct impact on the Albanian economy, reducing logistics costs and positioning Albania as a key hub in regional transport.
