"The law on strategic investments should be postponed for 2 years" -

The effects of the law "On strategic investments" should be postponed by 2 years. The request comes from the deputy of the Socialist Party, Pranvera Resulaj, who, through a bill submitted to the Assembly, proposes that the law be in force until December 31, 2026.

According to the postponements made some time ago, the effects of the law end in December of this year, while in the accompanying report the MP argues the request with the number of applications that are still in process, as well as with the interest of investors.

"Given that the interest of the subjects is still very high for this legal package, the flow and stock of foreign investments in the country are at the highest figures compared to the last 10 years and in order to avoid the creation of this legal gap as and the consequences that can be created by it, it is intended to extend the deadline for the submission of requests until December 31, 2026", - it is stated, among other things, in the relation.

The benefit of the "strategic investor" status allows companies public land through 1 euro lease contracts, auxiliary infrastructure, supply and adaptation of the electrical network, drinking water supply, etc.

The law strategically considers the energy and mining sector, transport, tourism, agriculture or fishing, while establishing criteria on the value of the investment to benefit from the status, according to each sector.

Meanwhile, in its proposal, Resulaj requests that this status be obtained for other sectors as well, if the investment capital of the project is over 50 million euros.

The proposal of these changes was opposed by the deputy of the Democratic Party, Jorida Tabaku, who, through a reaction on social networks, "said, among other things, that this is the eighth time that its deadline has been postponed, while the laws that would help 95% of Albanians remain blocked, forgotten in a drawer or rejected without mercy".

According to Resulaj's report, from 2016 when the initial law was approved, 108 investment projects have been handled, of which 48 have benefited from strategic status, 30 projects have been rejected, while another 31 are in the evaluation phase.
