Electricity, "key" to reducing gases - Energy Community seeks

The Energy Community Secretariat calls for the inclusion of additional mechanisms to accelerate the energy transition in all member states, including Albania.

The Electricity Working Group of the Energy Community Regulatory Board has published an in-depth report on renewable energy sources, highlighting that their growth is a critical tool in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and advancing the clean energy transition.

The report highlights the transition from traditional feed-in tariffs to market-based incentive schemes, reflecting the Energy Community's alignment with EU legislative standards.

Important updates include the introduction of competitive auction mechanisms, self-consumption schemes and balancing responsibilities for renewable energy producers, paving the way for greater participation in modern electricity markets.

Flexibility is another key focus, addressing the growing challenges faced by system operators due to the increasing penetration of solar, wind and hydropower plants.

According to the data included in this report, Albania produces 96% of its energy from renewable sources, divided into 90% from water and 6% from the sun, while 4% is produced from fossil sources.
