Albanian business raises alarm over rising fuel prices and calls for urgent measures

Leading business organizations across the country have issued a joint statement expressing deep concern about the escalating fuel crisis and its impact on the economy. According to them, the continued increase in prices, driven by geopolitical tensions and the global energy crisis, is exerting direct pressure on businesses and consumers.
The statement emphasizes that fuel is a strategic input for all sectors of the economy, while its rising cost is leading to increased production and service costs, higher prices for consumers, reduced purchasing power and weakened competitiveness of businesses in the region.
The organizations warn that uncertainty in energy markets is also negatively affecting the investment climate, delaying expansion plans and increasing the risk of capital shifting to more stable markets.
Faced with this situation, business requires immediate intervention from governments through fiscal easing policies and temporary stabilization mechanisms, including the establishment of price ceilings as an instrument to protect economic and social stability.
Among the main requirements are:
-Flexible review of the fiscal burden on fuels;
-Increasing transparency in price determination;
-Strengthening market control and the fight against abuses;
-Support for the most exposed sectors such as transport, agriculture and agro-processing, manufacturing industry, tailoring, services and tourism, which require concrete measures to cope with costs and avoid their transfer to the consumer.
Business also underlines the need for medium and long-term measures, including the creation of strategic oil reserves to guarantee energy security in cases of crisis, diversification of energy sources and reducing dependence on imports, as well as increasing investments in alternative energy and energy efficiency.
Finally, the organizations call for the development of an open and continuous dialogue between governments and business, with the aim of drafting viable policies that support the economy, preserve jobs, and guarantee economic and social stability throughout the Albanian space.
