ALPEX launches same-day auctions - Albanian Electricity Exchange: Dynamic prices, efficient cross-border trade
The Albanian Electricity Exchange, ALPEX has launched the operation of the Same Day Auction Market between Albania and Kosovo as a market union. Currently, day-advance auctions were held in this exchange, as this additional mechanism is expected to improve market efficiency.
ALPEX itself considers the launch of same-day auctions an important achievement and step forward in the regional electricity market, strengthening cross-border trade and market integration.
According to APLEX, Albania and Kosovo already have an additional market mechanism, the same as those of the European Union countries, placing these precursor markets within the Energy Community.
Complementary Regional Intraday Auctions (CRIDAs) are auctions where orders are matched and cross-border capacity is allocated simultaneously between bidding zones.
These auctions provide valuable mechanisms for market participants to maintain balanced trading positions and improve market efficiency. Intra-day auctions introduce a dynamic pricing mechanism for cross-border capacity within the same day, enabling efficient cross-border electricity trading.
Likewise, they optimize the allocation of cross-border capacities, guaranteeing fair and non-discriminatory treatment for market participants and strengthening competition in the production, trading and supply of electricity.
