Accidents, Insurers Association: What should passengers know when traveling by urban transport?

Every day, thousands of citizens use urban buses, interurban buses, vans or taxis to travel to work, school or other destinations. But few of them are aware that, according to Albanian legislation, public transport passengers must be covered by mandatory public transport passenger insurance.
This insurance is designed to protect passengers in the event of an accident while traveling and covers cases of loss of life or permanent disability that may occur while using a public transportation vehicle. The protection applies not only while the passenger is inside the vehicle, but also while boarding or disembarking from it.
Passengers should know that:
* have the right to receive compensation if they suffer injuries as a result of an accident while traveling;
* insurance coverage does not necessarily depend on the driver's responsibility;
* persons who are near the vehicle to board or have just disembarked from it are also considered insured passengers;
* legal protection exists regardless of whether the passenger is still equipped with a ticket or not.
Transport safety is not only related to respecting traffic rules, but also to guaranteeing financial and social protection for citizens in the event of unforeseen events.
At the same time, this is an appeal to all companies and operators of urban, interurban public transport, employee transport and taxis, to be equipped with mandatory passenger insurance and to respect the obligations provided for by Albanian law.
Passenger insurance is not just a legal obligation. It is a responsibility to the people who trust transportation companies with the safety of their journey every day.
Because every seat on the bus, every seat in the van, and every journey carries a life that deserves protection.
