Is Albania preparing a joint military strategy with Kosovo?/ Minister Vengu explains the project: Not just training!
In recent days, the pilots of the Kosovo Security Forces have started training flights at the Farka Air Base with "Cougar" helicopters, after the theoretical phase.
But does this mean that Albania and Kosovo are moving towards a common defense strategy?
Invited to the DATAROOM show of journalist Kreshnik Kuçaj on SCAN, Minister of Defense Pirro Vengu announced the project and cooperation. According to Vengu, Albania will seek the recognition of the Kosovo Security Forces from NATO allied countries, regardless of the progress of the political dialogue.
"What is important to understand is that the Kosovo Security Force is currently a force that is not recognized by NATO as an Armed Force. It is a reality for us, but not for all NATO allies.
And at the moment that there are allies who do not recognize Kosovo and the Kosovo Security Force, it has a limited interaction with NATO. Our task is that as Albania, as the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania, we can have the most important cooperation, not only training, but why not, in exchange for investments in the military industry, Kosovo will also benefit.
So the purchases should be made in a concentrated manner and serve the Kosovo Security Forces and the Albanian Forces. This would create a relief that they are earnestly and rightly seeking, and we are in coordination with the Macedonci counterpart.
Both of us, as ministers, have jointly requested that the exercises are not only in the land domain, but also be expanded in terms of the air with helicopters, why not also with more specialized capacities in terms of genius, engineering, cyber capacities, in order to have very fast interoperability with the Kosovo Security Forces.
And secondly, in the academic field and training of their cadets, every year there are more recruits from Kosovo who form the Academy of the Armed Forces. This also creates generations of soldiers who actually grow up together. This is also very important for military cooperation.
And thirdly, we are in an active effort with many allied countries but also with certain NATO commands so that they recognize the Kosovo Security Force as an irreversible reality. So regardless of recognition at the political level or not, regardless of the progress of the political dialogue, it is a force that exists and it is better in our view for NATO to invest in this reality, to influence this reality, than to leave it aside, as a matter of to be dealt with after a political dialogue" Minister Vengu declared.
