50 million euros in EU aid for energy - Government approves multi-year program,

The government has approved in principle the financing agreement with the European Commission for the multiannual operational program for energy for the period 2024 - 2027. The agreement was concluded within the framework of the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA III), but its full text has not yet been published.

However, referring to the document approved by the European Commission in August last year, the value of the financing for the 4-year period is foreseen to be up to 50 million euros and will be disbursed gradually over the years. According to the detailed plan, the disbursement should have started in 2024, but taking into account the delay in the approval of the agreement by the Albanian government, it will have to start during this year.

According to the document, for 2025, an allocation of 15 million euros is foreseen, while if the value of 4 million euros foreseen for last year is added, then the financing goes to 19 million euros. Meanwhile, for 2026, financing is foreseen with 18 million euros and for 2027, with 13 million euros.

According to the document, the objectives pursued by the multi-year action plan will advance the green agenda in Albania by strengthening efforts to protect the environment, contributing to climate change mitigation, increasing resilience, and facilitating the transition to a low-carbon economy.

It is also specified that the objective of the action is to promote renewable energy, energy efficiency and environmental protection in Albania.
