150 thousand lek damages paid for an accident - AMF: Insurance companies compensated over 8 billion lek during 2025

When a car accident or insured loss occurs, the question that immediately arises is how much does the insurance company actually pay?
According to the latest data from the Financial Supervisory Authority (AMF), the average claim paid for an accident or insured event in motor insurance is around 150 thousand lek per case. This amount represents the typical compensation that insurance companies pay for repairs or damages related to vehicles.
However, the amount varies depending on the type of insurance. For Casco insurance, which covers damages to the vehicle itself, the average damage has reached around 119 thousand lek per case, marking a significant increase compared to the previous year. While for mandatory domestic vehicle insurance, the average damage is estimated at around 146 thousand lek.
In total, for all types of insurance, the average claim paid in the market results in around 103 thousand lek per case, slightly lower than a year ago.
Meanwhile, if we look at the total payments, insurance companies paid about 8.26 billion lek in damages during 2025, almost at the same level as 2024, when payments reached about 8.19 billion lek. So, this is a very slight increase of about 0.8%.
The majority of these claims come from non-life insurance, which accounts for over 96% of the total, while life insurance accounts for only a small share of the market.
Motor insurance remains the main segment of claims, due to the high number of vehicles and accidents in circulation.
Claims payments by insurance companies have increased significantly in recent years. From around 3.6 billion lek in 2015, they have more than doubled, reaching over 8 billion lek in 2025.
This shows that the role of insurance in the financial protection of citizens and businesses is becoming increasingly important in the economy.
