Kosovo, how did the parties react after the elections? - Kurti evaluates the

The Vetëvendosje Movement is the party that has received the most votes in Sunday's elections in Kosovo, according to preliminary results published by the Central Election Commission. The party led by Albin Kurti has won about 41.29 percent of the vote, failing to repeat the success of 2021, when it received over 50 percent. These results reflect the need to form a governing coalition during the next four-year mandate.

Addressing his supporters celebrating the victory in the main square of Pristina, Kurti said that “we will continue the good work we started in the past four years and we will do many more, in accordance with our commitments”. According to him, “the elections were free, democratic and fair and the result is a confirmation of good, democratic and progressive governance”.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) came in second in Sunday's elections, and according to campaign spokesman Blerand Stavileci, this was a great and undeniable success. "The PDK has achieved a great result, it has been confirmed as the second largest force in the country with over 200 thousand votes. We thank the citizens who voted for the PDK. This is an undeniable success for us and a strong message for the country. The majority of citizens have turned their backs on this government, as they do not have a majority. The results show that the citizens are demanding a new government," said Stavileci, adding that "as for coalitions, we must wait for the finalization of the results."

The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, for his part, said that his party came third in these elections and he bears responsibility for the result. "LDK expects to win around 190 thousand votes from this electoral process. It should be somewhere around 20 percent, when the votes of the diaspora are also counted. It is a result that we respect and I take responsibility for this result," Abdixhiku said in a press conference.

According to the CEC, turnout in the elections was lower than in 2021, when 48% of citizens voted. In these elections, over 2 million citizens were eligible to vote, while around 790 thousand of them voted, just over 40%.
