Which foods did we buy the most expensive in March? The basket was mainly burdened by the increase in the prices of fish, meat and oils

Despite renewed tensions in the Middle East and rising oil prices, food inflation remained contained in March, although some basic products such as fish, meat and vegetables saw price increases.
The data show that annual inflation for the group “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” reached 1.3% in March, continuing the slowing trend compared to 1.7% in February and 1.8% in January. However, within this group, there were different movements among products, with some items marking an acceleration in the growth rate.
The strongest growth was recorded in the group "Fish and other seafood", where annual inflation reached 4.2% in March, from 3.2% in February, becoming the item with the highest increase among food products. Oils and fats also remained at relatively high levels, with 3.6%, as well as meat, which reached 2.7%, while milk, dairy products and eggs recorded an increase of 2.2%.
Compared to February, inflation accelerated in some of the most sensitive products in the food basket. In addition to fish, growth was also observed in fresh meat, which reached 2.6%, from 2.4% a month earlier, while vegetables, tubers and legumes increased to 0.3%, from 0.1% in February, moving into more clearly positive territory after the fluctuations of previous months.
On the other hand, some products continued to show price decreases, contributing to the slowdown in the overall pace of food inflation. Cereals and cereal-based products fell by 0.8%, while fruits, as well as sugar and confectionery products, recorded decreases of 0.9% each, indicating that pressures on the food basket remain dispersed and not uniform.
