Karakaçi: Albania is a country with concrete investment opportunities in the energy sector

During the “Match-Maker Albania” business forum, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, stated that the Albanian energy sector has entered a phase of extraordinary growth. With maturity, vision and clear rules, today Albania stands as a genuine destination for sustainable and mutually beneficial investments.
"It is gratifying to note that today foreign direct investments have exceeded 2 billion euros, with the energy sector playing a key role. This is not just a number; it is a clear sign of international confidence in our reforms, our economic strength and our long-term vision."
This progress is driven by a modern and dynamic legislation that Improves licensing procedures. Advances the balancing market. Enables the unbundling of operators. Strengthens the independence of the regional regulator.
Today we have a fully functional energy exchange (ALPEX) and Albania's participation in the growing regional market is a crucial step towards a more competitive and transparent system.
At the same time, we have accelerated the development of renewable sources through transparent and competitive auctions. We have attracted strong private investors to diversify our energy sources.
Today, over 500 megawatts of capacity comes from solar energy, increasing the share of green energy, reducing dependence on hydropower, and strengthening our sustainability.
We are also expanding new horizons. Today we have very advanced wind energy projects in Albania, which are among the largest in Europe. Floating photovoltaic energy is also being used, exploiting the potential of our existing basins.
Investments in infrastructure and interconnection are improving system connectivity and enabling higher integration of renewables. At the regional level, Albania is increasing connectivity with its neighbors and is positioning itself as a reliable gateway for energy exchange in Southeastern Europe. With strengthened transmission lines and a market that is merging with Italy, Greece and the region, Albania is playing an increasingly important role in the integration of European energy markets.
Looking to the future, our ambitions are clear, we aim to significantly expand our production base and position Albania as a net energy exporter by 2030.
But our growth is not just about that. This is a shared journey towards modernization. We are embracing innovation and technology more than ever before. The digitalization of our networks, smart metering infrastructure, and automation are transforming the way energy is produced, distributed, and consumed.
Our objective is to create a modern, flexible and intelligent system that is efficient, environmentally friendly and fully harmonized with European standards.
At the same time, we understand that energy investments are long-term journeys. Therefore, we continue to strengthen our ecosystem by creating an even stronger regulatory framework, simplifying procedures, providing clarity and reinforcing institutional guarantees. Our commitment is to provide predictability and confidence for every investor.
Today, Albania is not just a country with potential, it is a country with concrete investment opportunities and a proven ability to implement large-scale projects. We invite you to be part of this journey. Please explore Albania, build partnerships that translate into real projects and long-term prosperity.
You will have the support of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy and all relevant institutions.
