How can business integrate into the European market? - Human capital, key to increasing productivity and competitiveness

Increasing the productivity of Albanian businesses, focused on the workforce, is key to overcoming integration into the European Union as easily as possible.
The integration process creates new opportunities for Albanian entrepreneurship, but on the other hand comes with higher demands for competitiveness, standards and productivity, which is not only related to investments in technology but also in human capital. For this reason, Swisscontanct Albania and SWISSA Albania organized a roundtable dialogue with business representatives.
“Our businesses must become more competitive and productive to meet the standards that the European market demands. But without people capable of facing the challenges of modern technology, progress remains limited,” said Samir Shqarri, President, Swiss Albanian Chamber of Commerce.
Currently, Albania has the lowest labor productivity in the region.
"Human resources are a very important element of labor and enterprise productivity. If we become members of the EU, we will face EU firms that produce 10 times more and there will be transformative and devastating consequences for some Albanian firms," says Neritan Sejamini, Economics and Public Policy Consultant.
To respond to these challenges, the business community is designing a 4-pillar program that aims to facilitate this process for Albanian enterprises and focuses on awareness, company transformation, government support measures, and progress monitoring.
"If businesses are not ready, they will lose the market, the clientele and we will simply be consumers. If we lose economic sovereignty, we will have a very big problem. We will import inflation and crises and we will be consumers, which is why we have created a national support program for businesses, with four main pillars," emphasized Arben Shkodra, Secretary General of the Union of Albanian Producers.
Participants in the event from all sectors of the economy shared the concrete difficulties that the European Union integration process poses for them, as well as the need for a clearer roadmap and for more support through public policies and funding.
