Matura, second session starts on August 24 - Exams last until September 3, about 1,300 remaining in the first phase
The second session of the State Matura and the State Professional Matura 2026 will begin on August 24. The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Economy and Innovation have determined the dates and categories of candidates who can participate.
According to the calendar, the Foreign Language exam will be held on August 24, the Albanian Language and Literature exam on August 27, and Mathematics on August 31. The session will end on September 3 with the elective subjects exam, while for vocational education graduates, the integrated professional theory exam will be held on this date. All exams will start at 10:00 and will last 2 hours and 30 minutes. The tests will be designed and evaluated by the Educational Services Center, while the exams will be held in centralized centers.
The second session includes, among others, high school graduates who failed one or more exams in the first session. According to the data, around 1,300 high school graduates received a grade of 4 in at least one of the 2026 State Matura exams. The highest number of failers was registered in Mathematics, where 645 candidates received a grade of 4, or around 2.6% of the participants.
In Foreign Language, 367 failed, in Albanian Language and Literature 325, while in the elective exam 247 candidates. However, the number of candidates who can participate in the second session may be higher than the number of failed in the first session. The instruction provides that the exams will also include high school graduates who failed in one or two subjects during the 2025–2026 school year and have paid them off by August 7, as well as candidates from previous years who still have Matura obligations.
Candidates who have completed the recognition and unification of their secondary education diploma and still have Matura exams to take are also eligible to participate.
