When will pension indexation start? - Malaj: We are considering the possibility of bringing it closer to June-July

Pension indexation can be done within the months of June-July, without waiting for October as stipulated in the law. Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, emphasized that this possibility is being discussed, because the income in the scheme from social and health insurance has had a satisfactory performance, reaching 66.8 billion lek in the first 4 months of the year and with an increase of 7.4 billion lek compared to the previous year.

"We are discussing with the Social Security Institute about the indexation of pensions. We have created budgetary space to bring the indexation process closer to June or July, but it is a matter of decision-making and we will share it with you as soon as we have made a decision."
The Minister was also asked about the draft law on mandatory insurance of homes against earthquakes and floods, where he emphasized that it will be approved by the government within July.
"The draft law is for the line ministries to give their opinions. We will forward it to the government for approval by July."
The draft law on mandatory insurance of housing against earthquakes and floods was submitted for public consultation in February and aims to serve as an instrument that offers real protection for citizens in the event of natural disasters.
