Deposits from citizens and businesses continue to be the main source of funding for the Albanian banking system. At the end of 2025, the total value of deposits reached 1.836 billion lekë, marking an increase of 9.1% compared to the previous year.

According to the Bank of Albania Supervision Report, over 80% of banks' funding sources come from customer savings. Also, the share of deposits in lek has increased, reaching 48.6% of the total. Meanwhile, citizens have increasingly preferred time deposits, especially long-term ones, an indicator that shows greater confidence in keeping savings in banks for longer periods.

Regarding deposit concentration, the data show that the ten largest depositors hold about 7.5% of total banking system deposits, a slightly higher level than a year ago. On the other hand, individuals continue to hold the largest share of savings, about 78.4% of the total. The strongest growth in deposits was recorded in the private sector and individuals, while public sector deposits grew at a more moderate pace.

The loan-to-deposit ratio has also continued to improve. At the end of 2025, this indicator reached 51.5%, up from 49.6% a year earlier. This means that banks are using a larger share of collected savings to finance lending to the economy, while maintaining a stable level of liquidity.

In local currency, the loan-to-deposit ratio is higher than in foreign currency, which indicates that lending in lek continues to be more strongly supported by savings in the same currency.

Overall, developments in 2025 indicate a stable banking system, with increased savings, expanded lending, and continued trust of citizens and businesses in the banking sector.
