Wind industry brings 200,000 jobs - Sector expansion in Europe increases demand for advanced training
In the next six years, the European wind industry will need more than 200,000 new workers, according to WindEurope, the continent's leading association in the sector.
The European wind industry will expand from 370,000 jobs to 600,000 by 2030. WindEurope added that education and skills are increasingly becoming decisive factors for the success of Europe's Clean Industrial Deal.
With ambitious climate goals and the need to increase energy independence, the European Union plans to increase wind power capacity from the current 225 GW to 425 GW by the end of the decade. This expansion has major implications for the European supply chain and labor market, according to WindEurope.
On the road to the green transformation, Europe faces three interrelated challenges: the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen energy security by reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels, and increase industrial competitiveness through the use of cheap and renewable energy sources. Wind energy plays a crucial role in addressing all these challenges, enabling a reliable and sustainable transition.
To address the labor shortage, WindEurope is already involved in several initiatives aimed at adapting education systems to meet the needs of the green industry.
The European Commission has announced two strategic plans: the EU Action Plan for Vocational Education and Training, which aims to improve the quality and accessibility of technical education, and the Strategic Action Plan for STEM Disciplines, which encourages more young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
