Albania, in the EU project on intellectual property - Laknori: Without brand

Albania becomes part of the European Union's new "EU4IP" project for intellectual property, an initiative that aims to strengthen the protection of trademarks, patents, industrial designs and copyrights in the Western Balkan countries.

The initiative is expected to support Albanian institutions with technical assistance, exchange of expertise and further approximation of legislation with European standards. For the expert, this project is also directly related to the European integration process and Albania's harmonization with the negotiation chapters.

"EU4IP" is one of the latest projects launched by the European Commission and even by CEFTA, and we congratulate the DPPI and the Ministry of Economy and Innovation as the initiators of this large and valuable field. It also goes hand in hand with Chapter 7 of integration and harmonization in the wake of 33 chapters. It also goes well with growth and regional cooperation, because CEFTA itself promotes regional cooperation for countries that are about to join the EU," said Albana Laknori, Expert on Industrial and Intellectual Property.

According to expert Laknori, rapprochement with the European market will make this process even more necessary, as Albanian companies will face stronger competition rules and higher protection standards.

"I also appreciate it for the businesses themselves. We are approaching the EU, businesses must irreversibly learn that intellectual property is protected, intellectual property is not stolen. In all the relationships they will have in the future with regional and European companies, problems will arise in the lack of competitiveness if they do not have it protected. So we also see this project as a promotion of intellectual property, an education of business to protect everything they produce," she added.

For Albania, the impact is expected to be direct in improving the business climate, protecting investors, and promoting entrepreneurship based on innovation, creativity, and competitiveness.
