One business for every 17 inhabitants in Albania/ Tirana, Vlora and Durrës, at the forefront of Albanian entrepreneurship

Albania ended 2025 with 137,892 active economic enterprises, which means that there is an average of one business operating in the country for every 17 inhabitants. INSTAT data shows that entrepreneurship remains mainly concentrated in the country's largest economic and tourist centers, with Tirana, Vlora and Durrës leading the ranking for the number of businesses in relation to population.
The Tirana region continues to be the engine of the Albanian economy. With 66,437 active enterprises and 765,459 inhabitants, the capital city registers the highest density of businesses in the country, with one enterprise for every 11.5 inhabitants. This means that almost half of the active businesses in Albania are concentrated in the Tirana region.
After Tirana, Vlora is ranked, confirming its increasingly important role in the Albanian economy. With 11,256 active enterprises, the region counts one business for every 12.6 inhabitants. Vlora's position is closely linked to the development of tourism, services and trade, sectors that have experienced continuous expansion in recent years.
Durrës ranks third, with one business for every 15.3 residents. The region counts 14,341 active enterprises and benefits from its strategic position as the country's largest port center and one of the main trade and logistics hubs.
At the other end of the ranking are the regions with the lowest density of entrepreneurship. Dibra results in only one business for every 45.5 inhabitants, registering the lowest level in the country. It is followed by Kukës with one business for every 40 inhabitants and Berat with one business for every 33 inhabitants.
In regional comparison, Albania is among the countries with the highest concentration of businesses relative to population. With one active enterprise for every 17 inhabitants, the country ranks behind Montenegro, where there is approximately one business for every 10 inhabitants. Meanwhile, in North Macedonia the ratio is one business for 27 inhabitants, in Kosovo one for 30 inhabitants, in Serbia one for 31 inhabitants and in Bosnia and Herzegovina one for 37 inhabitants, according to the latest data available for countries in the region.
