Albania, among the European countries with the most seasonal tourism/ Over 42% of overnight stays during 2025 were registered only in July and August
The year 2025 was another very positive year for tourism in Albania, with an increase in the number of visitors and overnight stays in accommodation structures. The high influx of tourists during the year was also reflected in the record number of nights spent in hotels, guesthouses and other tourist structures, confirming the increasing importance of the sector for the country's economy.
During 2025, around 9.7 million overnight stays were recorded in Albania. However, tourism activity continues to be concentrated mainly during the summer season, when the country receives the largest number of domestic and foreign visitors.
According to Eurostat data, Albania is one of the most seasonal countries in Europe in terms of tourism. During the months of July and August, 42.42% of all tourist overnight stays of the year were recorded, which shows that almost half of the tourist activity is concentrated in just the two summer months. This level ranks Albania among the countries with the highest seasonal influx on the continent and in first place in the region.
Compared to the Western Balkan countries, Albania leads in the concentration of overnight stays during the summer. Montenegro ranks next with 40.5%, while North Macedonia registers 28.9%. Kosovo and Serbia present a more balanced distribution of tourism throughout the year, with 23% and 21.6% of overnight stays concentrated in July and August, respectively.
At the European Union level, 31.1% of all tourist overnight stays in 2025 were recorded in the two busiest months, July and August. According to Eurostat, the seasonality of tourism is influenced by factors such as climatic conditions, geographical location, as well as the school holiday calendar and cultural traditions.
The most pronounced seasonal pattern in the European Union was recorded in Croatia, where 54.5% of overnight stays were made during July and August. It is followed by Bulgaria with 43.4% and Greece with 41.6%. On the other hand, Malta with 21.9%, Germany with 24% and Finland with 24.1%, countries where tourist flows are more evenly distributed throughout the year.
