Albania, with 434 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants/ The total number increased by 9.2% in the third quarter

The history of road vehicle statistics reflects an increase in the number of vehicles in our country from year to year, letting us understand that Albania is motorizing at a rapid pace. According to data for the third quarter of the year from the Institute of Statistics, there are about 1 million and 25 thousand road vehicles in circulation in the territory of Albania. If we compare it with the same period of 2024, it results that the total number of vehicles has increased by 9.2%, while new registrations have also marked an increase, although more moderate by 1.6%.
If we talk about the number of vehicles per inhabitant, it results that in the country this ratio is around 434 vehicles per 1000 inhabitants, experiencing a significant increase from previous years. Among the vehicles circulating in the country, it results that cars constitute 80.8% of the total vehicles, followed by motorcycles with 6% and mixed transport vehicles with 5.9%.
Tirana has the largest share with 34.7% of total vehicles, followed by Durrës with 13.6%. Meanwhile, Gjirokastra and Kukës are the regions with the lowest number of vehicles, with 2.2% and 2.4% respectively. During this quarter, around 26 thousand vehicles were registered for the first time, of which 82.3% were cars. Again, the Tirana region leads with 39.5% of new registrations.
As for the most popular brands among newly registered vehicles, Volkswagen maintains its first position with 19.8%, followed by Mercedes-Benz with 17%. The dominance of these brands is related to the competitive prices of used models, more accessible spare parts and the long tradition of preferences of Albanian consumers, making this brand the most preferred for this quarter.
