Imports cost less in the second quarter/ Prices almost unchanged, the sharpest decline in energy

Prices of imported industrial products continued to remain stable in the second quarter of 2026, marking a slight decrease compared to the previous year. According to INSTAT, the Import Price Index reached 107.5 points, while on an annual basis it decreased by 0.1%. A year earlier, the decrease had been stronger, at 0.7%.
The largest price decrease was recorded in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning sector, where prices fell by 2.2% compared to the second quarter of 2025. The extractive industry recorded a decrease of 0.2%, while in the processing industry prices decreased by only 0.02%.
Even compared to the first three months of the year, the movements were almost negligible. The Import Price Index increased by only 0.001%, indicating that the price level has remained practically unchanged from one quarter to the next.
The second quarter's performance confirms a period of limited pressures from industrial import prices. The INSTAT chart also shows that the annual change has remained in negative territory for several quarters, but the pace of decline has slowed significantly compared to previously recorded levels.
The index measures the price performance of imported industrial products destined for sale in the domestic market and includes the extractive industry, the processing industry, energy, and water supply and waste management activities.
Overall, the data show that industrial imports are not currently exerting strong pressure on prices, while falling costs in the energy sector remain the main factor keeping the index in negative territory.
