EU "closes doors" to around 7,900 Albanians/ Around 15,000 received

According to data from the "European Statistical Agency", around 15 thousand Albanians were ordered to leave an EU country, while over 7,800 people have returned after an order to leave one of the European Union countries where they were located, referring to figures for 2024.

In 2024, around 123 thousand third-country nationals were refused entry to the EU territory at one of its external borders, a slight increase of 0.3% compared to 2023. 

Meanwhile, around 918,000 people were found to be illegally present in an EU country, representing a 27.4% drop compared to 1.27 million the previous year.

The number of third-country nationals who were issued with an order to leave an EU country was over 450 thousand, a decrease of 7.3% compared to 2023.

Following an order to leave, around 110,000 third-country nationals were returned to a third country, an increase of 19.3%.

According to figures from the "European Statistical Agency", among non-EU citizens returned from the territory of an EU country in this period, Georgians with 11,585 topped the list of third-country nationals returned, followed by Turks with 7,910 and Albanians with a number of 7,895.

In total, Albanians returned from the territory of an EU country and a non-EU country are estimated at around 8 thousand. Compared to 2023, it appears that the number of Albanians returned was lower than a year ago.

According to Eurostat, the largest returns of Albanian citizens in 2024 were made from Greece, France, Germany, Italy and Hungary.
