Cultural tourism brings in over 517 million lek in 9 months/ Castles, museums or archaeological parks, what do they visit the most?
Cultural tourism in Albania continues to experience significant growth both in economic terms and in the interest of the local and foreign public. During the period January-September 2025, income from visits to cultural sites reached 517.5 million lek, while the number of visitors reached a full 1,259,774 people. This result comes as evidence of the increased attention to the country's historical and cultural heritage, turning it into one of the main pillars of the sustainable development of Albanian tourism.
According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, archaeological parks have brought in the highest income, with a total of 291 million lek. Next come museums, which have collected 120.5 million lek, while forts and historical monuments have generated 106 million lek. The most successful month in terms of income was September, with 110 million lek, while January was marked as the weakest financially, with only 6.8 million lek.
In the same period, the number of visitors who visited cultural sites reached 1,259,774, a figure that indicates a stable and growing interest in Albania's historical and cultural values. Visitors were distributed in three main categories, 538,508 people visited archaeological parks, 356,762 people visited forts and monuments, while 364,504 visitors chose to visit museums. Also in terms of the number of visitors, September was the most active, with a total of 244,460 visitors, while January recorded the lowest figure, with 21,727 people.
The significant increase in income and number of visitors confirms the importance of cultural heritage, not only as a national asset, but also as a concrete source of income for the economy. Archaeological parks, museums and forts are increasingly becoming destinations visited not only during the tourist season, but throughout the year.
