Durrës-Rrogozhinë train, 90 million euro tender deadline extended - Requirements for environmental, social standards and staff qualification are strengthened

Albanian Railways has extended the deadline for submitting bids in the international tender worth 90 million euros for the rehabilitation of the Durrës - Rrogozhina railway line.
According to the amended notice published on the European TED platform, the deadline for submitting bids has been moved from June 10 to July 22, 2026, giving economic operators about 6 additional weeks to prepare the documentation.
Beyond the extension of the deadline, the new document also brings some additional requirements for participating companies. The contractor that will be declared the winner will have to respect the obligations of the European Investment Bank for integrity, environmental protection and social aspects, as well as to draft specific plans for the management of environmental, health and safety issues during the implementation of the works.
Also, unlike the first announcement, bidders are required to submit information on the staff and professional qualifications of the personnel who will be engaged in the project.
The project envisages the design and construction of approximately 34 km of railway line, mainly on the existing track. The works include the reconstruction and construction of bridges, underpasses and pedestrian overpasses, the rehabilitation of a tunnel approximately 380 meters long, the modernization of level crossings, and the installation of modern railway signaling systems.
The investment package also includes the reconstruction of 5 railway stations, the construction or rehabilitation of parallel access roads and measures for climate change adaptation. The line will be designed so that it can be electrified at a later stage.
The estimated value of the contract remains 90 million euros excluding VAT, while the implementation period is 48 months.
