Startups, "hotbeds" of innovation in Albania - Kapo: We can implement a model where corporations produce their own ecosystems

Startups can be key drivers of innovation, employment and economic growth, provided they have sufficient support. Albania has the potential to become an innovation hub in the region, if the right ways are found to develop the startup ecosystem.
According to Startup Ecosystem Researcher, Klevisa Kapo, a model could be implemented in Albania where large companies use small startups to offer different solutions for certain tasks.
"We can mention a model that is not very existent in Albania, which is called corporate based innovation ecosystem or innovation ecosystems, which are produced and initiated by corporations. We have large companies in Albania, which can definitely outsource part of their tasks or transfer them to third parties to develop them. Of course, they may also need different solutions, which they can offer to start-ups and build ecosystems, as they have all the capacities to help start-ups move forward," said Kapo.
The researcher states that education should be more closely linked to businesses and scientific research should be developed to provide business solutions.
"It is the entire education infrastructure in Albania, which should be in function of the start-up ecosystem. Currently, education in Albania remains only in education and the part of all scientific research is almost not based on the real needs of business or the solutions that the academy offers are not really applicable in business. So I think the education system, tax systems, legislative systems will definitely need to be strengthened," the researcher emphasized.
Startups are hotbeds of innovation, often changing traditional industries with innovative ideas and technologies.
