“Differentiated beer excise tax scheme” - Tabakut's proposal: Supports small producers. Majority: The government was not consulted
Reinstatement of the differentiated excise tax scheme for "Made in Albania" beer, with the aim of supporting small domestic producers and increasing competitiveness in the domestic market.
The proposal comes from Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku, who has submitted a draft law to the Assembly, which she says will support small beer businesses facing higher production costs, as well as align legislation with that of the European Union.
The majority MPs rejected Tabaku's request, arguing that it was not accompanied by a compatibility table and that the government and interest groups were not consulted.
With the 2022 amendments, the law removed the differentiated excise tax treatment for beer, unified the tariff at 710 lek/HL, and eliminated the special scheme for small producers under 200,000 HL/year.
