Albanians, 1 million home banking transactions - BoA: New record, more banking transactions are being carried out digitally

From physical to digital money, Albanians are choosing to conduct more banking transactions via phone.
According to the latest data from the Bank of Albania, the number of transactions has experienced a record increase in July, reaching the figure of 1 million for the first time. In 7 months of this year, 21% more transactions were carried out than in January-July last year.
On the other hand, there was a slight decrease of 0.3% in the amount of payments or transfers made through home banking. This means that a greater number of payments or transfers were made via the internet, but in smaller amounts during the month of July.
However, if we compare this seven-month period with that of last year, we understand that in 2025, banking transactions worth 1.5 billion lek were carried out, 15% more than in January-July 2024.
Home banking refers to all banking transactions that can be performed via phone, tablet, laptop or computer, over the internet from the bank's online website or through its application, directly from the comfort of home.
Home banking is used to make money transfers, pay taxes, electricity, water, telephone bills, police fines, credit card payments, and more, without the need to appear at physical bank branches.
Making transfers through mobile banking apps saves much more time than those carried out at physical branches, as transactions can often be completed within minutes at home.
The increase in transactions carried out through bank applications or online websites is an indicator of the digitalization of banking services, while further increasing the financial inclusion of citizens, as well as the transparency of banking operations.
