The number of electric vehicles is increasing - DPSHTRR: 83.3% of total new registrations are Euro 5
The registration of vehicles with high environmental standards and electric vehicles has increased during the first half of 2026, providing a positive impact on reducing air pollution in the country.
According to the report of the General Directorate of Road Transport Services for the period January-June 2026, the expansion of the "All-Electric" vehicle fleet is significantly contributing to the reduction of gas emissions that affect climate change and air quality.
The data shows that fully electric vehicles have reduced emissions by about 7 million 542 thousand kilograms of carbon dioxide per year. According to the DPSHTRR, this is equivalent to the effect of 251,416 cleaner environmental lungs, reflecting the positive impact that the use of electric vehicles has on environmental protection and public health.
In parallel with the increase in the number of electric vehicles, there is also evidence of an improvement in the environmental standards of vehicles registered for the first time in the country. According to DPSHTRR data, 83.3% of vehicles registered during this period belong to the environmental category Euro 5 and above, standards that guarantee lower pollution levels compared to older generation vehicles.
Compared to the same period in 2025, the share of vehicles with Euro 5 standards and above has increased by 9.3%, while compared to the first half of 2024, the increase reaches 17%.
According to the General Directorate of Road Transport Services, these indicators prove that the vehicle fleet in Albania is gradually modernizing, with an increasing orientation towards less polluting vehicles and more environmentally friendly technologies.
The increased use of electric vehicles and vehicles with high environmental standards contributes not only to reducing carbon dioxide emissions, but also to improving air quality in urban areas, creating better conditions for the environment and the health of citizens.
