The law on non-food products is "reformed" / Draft in Public Consultation, in accordance with EU rules
As part of efforts to improve the functioning of the internal market and approximation with European legislation, a draft law on several additions and amendments to the law "On the trade and market supervision of non-food products" has been published in Public Consultations.
The new regulation aims to strengthen control over the Albanian non-food market, ensuring that only products that comply with the requirements of harmonised European legislation are allowed to circulate on the market. These measures aim to guarantee a high level of protection of public interests, such as consumer safety and health, safety at the workplace, environmental protection and public safety.
This draft law represents an important step in Albania's European integration process, specifically in fulfilling the requirements of EU Chapter 1, which deals with the Free Movement of Goods. Furthermore, the initiative is in line with the objectives of the Berlin Process, helping to strengthen regional integration and create a common Balkan market.
But what are the main objectives of the draft law?
According to the report, the main objectives include increasing the capacity and efficiency of supervisory authorities for the non-food market. Ensuring the compliance of products on the Albanian market with European standards by 2030. Harmonizing Albanian legislation with Regulation (EU) 2019/1020 by 2025. Guaranteeing consumer protection from unsafe products, increasing trust in the domestic market.
Establishing mechanisms for informing and mandatory implementation of legal requirements by all economic operators. The draft law is expected to have a positive impact on the quality and safety of non-food products in Albania, bringing domestic standards closer to those of the European Union and contributing to the protection of the Albanian consumer.
