Fier gas exit point - TAP begins construction contract implementation, finally handed over to the state

The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) has entered a new phase of gas infrastructure development in Albania, starting the implementation of the contract for the construction of the gas exit point in Fier.
According to data from the Energy Regulatory Authority, as of June 2, 2025, TAP has entered the contract execution phase for the construction of the Fier South Facility. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-2026, with commissioning and handover of the facility expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
This development comes in implementation of the agreement signed in 2021 between TAP AG and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, for the gas exit point in Fier, which foresees that TAP will design and build the infrastructure, to be subsequently handed over to the Albanian state. Upon completion, the facility will be fully owned and operated by our country.
The Fier gas exit point is considered a strategic node for the country's energy system, as it creates a direct connection between the TAP pipeline and the future gas distribution infrastructure in Albania. It is expected to serve as an entry point for gas supplies from the Caspian region, with expandable capacity and bi-directional flow capabilities.
At the political level, the project has been hailed as an important step towards the country's gasification and diversification of energy sources. Authorities have emphasized that this infrastructure will not only improve the security of energy supply, but also strengthen Albania's role as an energy hub in the Western Balkans.
