Petrit Malaj: Revenues at historic levels, over 1 billion euros more in 2025-2026

The Albanian economy is entering a new phase of development, where public finances are becoming a real engine of growth. This was stated by the Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, emphasizing that the current fiscal system supports the economy, fights informality and is aligning with European Union standards.
According to him, budget revenues have reached historic levels thanks to reforms and good governance, without increasing the fiscal burden on citizens. For the years 2025-2026 alone, over 1 billion euros of additional revenues are expected, which will translate into more investments in schools, hospitals and public services.
The performance of January-February 2026 appears positive, with 130 billion lek in revenue, or 11.5% more than a year ago, equivalent to about 135 million additional euros.
Malaj also highlighted progress in the fight against tax evasion, increased tax investigations and improved efficiency of controls, which are now based on risk analysis and digitalized processes.
Another achievement remains the digitalization of services, where tax and customs administrations offer almost all services online, significantly reducing procedure time for businesses and citizens.
In conclusion, the minister emphasized that the year 2026 will be key for the full approximation of fiscal and customs legislation with European Union standards, as well as for expanding the use of technology and artificial intelligence in administration.
