Inspection of AirBnB and Booking apartments begins - Tourism plan/Taxes, field verifications in the period June-September
All individuals or entities that rent apartments through the Booking and AirBnB platforms during this summer tourist season will be monitored for the purpose of full declaration of turnover and payment of tax obligations.
In the 2025 tourism plan, which has begun implementation, the tax administration plans to monitor and analyze entities on the Booking and AirBnB platforms to determine the prices offered by accommodation structures, comparing them with the fiscalization system.
On the other hand, field verification of subjects identified as at risk will also be carried out during the June-September period, as well as monitoring and reporting of various reported cases.
This year, the Albanian tax administration has begun a collaboration with the Irish tax administration to investigate individuals who benefit from income from the Booking and AirBnB platforms and do not declare it. It has asked individuals to make the relevant declarations through DIVA.
Data from the short-term rental accommodation market shows that there are currently over 18,200 active short-term rental units listed on various booking platforms.
Short-term rentals have now become a real business for many individuals who rent various structures long-term and then rent them out daily, while an extra income for another segment of citizens who own an apartment in which they do not live and work it through the Booking and AirBNB platforms.
The profits in this case are different for those who have it as a business, as the costs are distributed and lower, and for those individuals who only have one structure.
