The fight against fake news in Albania - Presentation of findings by AMA and Faktoje: Portals abuse
The lack of authenticity of the news, due to time pressure, the increase in the number of portals operating on social networks, as well as a number of other factors, have increased the risk of disinformation.
"The complexity of communication channels and technology have increased the different ways of media interaction, creating the impression that this has made communication easier. But, like everything new, this has also brought risks and unwanted phenomena," said AMA President Armela Krasniqi.
During the activity developed by the Audiovisual Media Authority in collaboration with "Faktoje", the main findings that cause the increase in disinformation were presented.
"All journalists who have participated in the 'Faktoje' training, especially those who work online, admit that they often publish information without first verifying it," said journalist Jona Plumbi from "Faktoje".
Also invited to the event was Erjon Tase, Executive Director of the Academy of Political Studies, who emphasized that the main factor of disinformation comes from the large number of online portals that publish fake news.
"In the last week, several portals that are considered media sources, not just online, have circulated news such as that Chinese military aircraft have broken the Israeli blockade and dropped aid on Gaza, helping the population on the brink of survival from the Israeli blockade — news that is false," said Erjon Tase.
Also present was Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa, who highlighted cases of disinformation from the May 11 parliamentary elections.
"I was impressed by the fact that all journalists admit that they report all political statements without any verification," said MP Zhupa.
Some of the recommendations of the study conducted by "Faktoje" are that the fight against media disinformation should start in 9-year education.
