349.2 MW of energy licensed - Solar energy dominates with 19 projects, 4 HPPs and 1 wind power plant are also planned

The eleven months of 2025 have marked the granting of a high number of licenses for the production of electricity. According to official data from the Energy Regulatory Authority, a total of 24 companies were licensed for the period January - November, for projects with a total projected installed capacity of 349.2 MW.
The data shows a clear dominance of solar energy, with 326.4 MW licensed. The projects belong to 19 different companies, while the licensed plants are expected to be located in the Fier Region, with the exception of 2 of them. One of the plants will be in Kukës, while the other is in Durrës and is the Spitalla plant. However, while the increase in electricity production capacities seems to be focused on solar plants, during the 11 months of 2025, 4 licenses for hydropower plants were also granted, for projects with a total installed capacity of 19.8 MW.
Meanwhile, after many years without any development in wind energy, for the first time a project with a capacity of 3 MW has been licensed in the Tragjas area, which is added to the 2 active licenses granted by the Energy Regulatory Authority in 2007-2008.
Meanwhile, given the fact that a considerable number of electricity sources are expected to be built and connected to the grid, the Energy Regulatory Authority emphasizes the need for more dynamic development and investments to integrate these sources into the Albanian electricity system in the coming years.
