Karakaçi inspects the investment in Bogë/ Head of the OSSH: The network is facing high load due to the heat
The Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Enea Karakaçi, is in Bogë, where he is inspecting the investment for the construction of a 35 kV line and a new electrical substation. This project is expected to significantly improve the supply of electricity to residents, businesses and the tourism sector throughout the Albanian Alps area, increasing safety and quality of service.
During the inspection, the Director of the Distribution System Operator (DSO), Bledi Dalipaj, spoke about the challenges the electricity system has faced in recent weeks, as a result of high temperatures and the significant increase in electricity consumption.
According to him, the heat wave has brought unusual loads to the network, causing consumption to reach record levels.
" It is true that during these days we are facing very high temperatures. Even during the month of June we had unusual temperatures, which brought a significant increase in electricity consumption. At the end of June we reached a record of 25 million kWh, while in recent days consumption has reached about 26 million kWh. For comparison, last year the peak of consumption was recorded in August, with about 26.5 million kWh ," said Dalipaj.
He announced that extreme temperatures have also affected the operation of electrical network equipment.
" During the last days of June and throughout July, our field teams have reported that temperatures in electrical cabins have reached up to 80 degrees Celsius. We have taken all necessary measures, but not every situation can be foreseen. We operate on a network that has been functioning for many years and we are obliged not only to maintain it, but also to strengthen it through investments and organizational measures ," he said.
The Director of the OSSH emphasized that the institution's teams are fully prepared to intervene in any case, while also asking for the understanding of citizens due to the unusual weather conditions.
" I believe that we will cope with this period as well. Our teams are on the ground 24 hours a day and are ready to intervene immediately whenever necessary. However, we ask for the understanding of citizens, as we are facing temperatures that we have not experienced before ," concluded Dalipaj.
