Which sector absorbs the most foreign investments? - BoA: Financial and insurance activities, with the highest growth in 2024
During 2024, foreign investments in real estate, financial and insurance activities, as well as in the electricity, gas and water supply sectors dominated.
Official data shows an increase in foreign investment inflows across all sectors. Although real estate has the largest foreign investment inflow in value, those in financial and insurance activities have the largest increase compared to 2023.
Specifically, foreign investments in financial and insurance activities increased by 20.5% on an annual basis, those in real estate by 17.3%, while foreign investments in electricity, gas and water supply increased by a small 5%.
Financial and insurance activities refer to investments in the banking sector, capital markets, insurance companies, debt instruments, bonds and securities, or share purchases, start-up financing and others.
Among others, financial and insurance activities are also the sector with the highest salaries. Figures from INSTAT show that during the fourth quarter of 2024, the economic activities that offer an average gross monthly salary, higher than the average salary at the national level, are financial and insurance activities and then information and communication.
On the other hand, the sectors that absorb the least foreign investment are accommodation and food services, transport and storage, health and social work activities, as well as arts, entertainment and recreation. Meanwhile, the sectors with zero foreign investment continue to remain agriculture, forestry, fishing, education and other service activities.
