Saranda Bypass, winner announced for construction/ 1.77 billion lek for phase I, expected to ease traffic during the tourist season

With a bid of around 1.77 billion lek, the company “Gjoka Konstruksion” has been declared the winner for the construction of the Saranda bypass. 5 other companies also participated in the competition, which were disqualified on the grounds that they did not meet the specific qualification criteria set out in the Standard Tender Documents.
The public procurement procedure for the construction of the Saranda bypass, with a limit fund of 2 billion lek, was opened in July and includes the first phase of the project, while a second procedure will be needed for the full completion of the road, which is expected to have a limit fund of 833 million lek.
Referring to the project, the road will be about 3.5 km long and extends over a hilly terrain to the Bistrica River, where the construction of a bridge about 70 meters long is planned. Further, it continues on flat terrain and ends with another junction on the national axis Kardhiq-Delvinë. The road will have a permitted speed of 60 km/h, while it will be of the interurban category C2, with a 3.5-meter lane and safety embankments on both sides.
The completion of this road project is expected to significantly ease the flow of vehicles entering and exiting the city of Saranda, especially during the tourist season. The traffic study conducted by the consultants shows that during the summer period, an average of 25,000 vehicles circulate in and out of the city per day, turning Qafë e Gjashtës into a problematic point in terms of vehicle traffic.
