Transparency Board lowers fuel prices, sets new ceiling for diesel and gasoline

The Transparency Board decided today to reduce the ceiling prices for petroleum by-products in the domestic market, as part of monitoring the situation and protecting consumers.
According to the decision taken at the next meeting:
The maximum retail price for diesel (SSH EN 590) will be 210 lekë/liter, while wholesale 198 lekë/liter.
For gasoline, the maximum retail price is set at 173 lekë/liter, while wholesale 161 lekë/liter.
These prices came into effect today, April 9, at 14:30 and will remain valid until a new decision by the board, depending on market developments.
The authorities have called on all fuel trading operators to implement the decision, warning of strict measures in case of violations, up to and including suspension of activity.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, emphasizes that it remains committed to protecting the interests of citizens and guaranteeing fair competition in the market.
Clarification on excise duty
According to Normative Act No. 1, dated April 3, 2026, the reduced excise duty rate (80%) applies only if fuel prices exceed the specified limits. Given that current prices are below these limits, the full excise duty at 100% will be applied to diesel and gasoline.
