The Albanian Power Corporation has developed another procedure for purchasing energy in the free market, with the aim of meeting consumer needs.

In the last procedure, about 7.1 million euros were spent on the purchase of about 59 thousand MWh of energy, while the total bill for this year reached about 133 million euros.

This is not a good year from an energy point of view, due to high temperatures and a lack of rainfall, which would enable the production of electricity from the Drini Cascade hydroelectric power plants.

The price at which energy was secured in the last procedure is 123.5 euros/mWh, while the most expensive energy was purchased in January - February.

This situation presents a stark contrast to last year, when by the end of the first half of the year no import procedures had been carried out, thanks to the supply from the Drini Cascade HPPs. For 2024, the total electricity import bill reached around 70 million euros.

Meanwhile, these data once again highlight the dependence of the Albanian power system on weather conditions, where about 94% of production comes from water sources and 6% from photovoltaic plants.
