Businesses targeting the EU are unclear - Zekja: Financial challenge for Albanian enterprises

European integration remains the main challenge for Albania in the next four years, but at the same time a process that requires in-depth preparation, especially for business. Adaptation to European Union standards is not only related to wage increases, but also to a number of other factors that directly affect the competitiveness of the domestic market.
Florjan Zekja Business Representative:
"The main challenge for the next 4 years is integration, entry into the European community. This is a very important challenge, where business must prepare in addition to preparing for wages, which we must have an adjustment to EU wages, there are also several other factors that must be met to be in step with businesses in the European community. And all chapters have been opened, but they are at the consultation level, and there is no chapter where it is clearly defined what the role of the government will be, or the role of business in this transformation."
While all negotiation chapters have been opened, experts say the process is still in the consultation phase, without a clear division of responsibilities between the government and the private sector. This uncertainty risks weighing on business, which must face a costly and rapid transformation.
"A calculation should be made, how much it costs, what is the cost of this transformation and based on that it should be distributed to the business because it is an anomaly for the business to enter and face production giants, with hundreds of years of experience."
Experts emphasize that without a realistic assessment of costs and without direct support, Albanian businesses risk entering a market unprepared where they face companies with tens and hundreds of years of experience.
