Besmir Beja meets Nancy VanHorn: Albania-US cooperation in the customs field

The Director General of Customs, Besmir Beja, received in a meeting the Chargé d'Affaires of the United States Embassy in Albania, Nancy VanHorn.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of customs administration, border security, and trade facilitation, emphasizing the importance of the strategic partnership between Albania and the United States of America.

During the conversation, Beja presented the main priorities of the institution he leads, emphasizing the modernization of customs services, increasing institutional transparency and integrity, and improving the business climate through simplified and standardized procedures. He underlined the commitment of Albanian Customs in the fight against illegal trafficking, smuggling and corruption, as well as in ensuring effective control of the movement of goods in accordance with international security standards.

VanHorn praised the key role of Albanian Customs in the fight against international organized crime and narcotics trafficking, increasing budget revenues, and creating a favorable environment for investment. She emphasized that the United States will continue to support efforts to increase professional capacities, strengthen border security, and expand economic cooperation between the two countries.

The parties also discussed concrete opportunities for deepening technical assistance, exchanging best practices, and advancing projects that contribute to increasing the efficiency of customs administration and facilitating legitimate trade.

Respecting international standards, ensuring security in the supply chain, and providing quality service to citizens and the business community remain essential priorities of Albanian Customs, in the function of economic development and further integration of the country into international markets.
