Banks granted 45.3 billion lek loans in June/ BoA: Deposits also increased by 90 billion lek compared to May

According to the latest data from the "Bank of Albania", total credit to the economy reached 992.7 billion lek at the end of June 2026, expanding by about 14.7 billion lek compared to May. The increase confirms the continuation of the positive performance of lending, while the credit stock is increasingly approaching the level of 1 trillion lek.
New loans disbursed by the banking system during June reached 45.3 billion lek, up from 39.8 billion lek in May. The expansion of lending continues to be mainly supported by businesses. New loans to private non-financial corporations reached 30.4 billion lek in June. This indicates that demand for financing from the private sector remains strong, while businesses continue to invest and expand their activity.
Lending to individuals appears to have slowed in the sixth month of the year. New loans to individuals and the non-profit institutions that serve them reached 14.9 billion lek, up from 14.2 billion lek in May, marking an increase of about 700 million lek.
At the end of the first half of the year, Albanians' savings in the banking system reached 1.543 trillion lek. Bank of Albania data show that compared to May, deposits increased by about 90 billion lek.
The majority of these savings continue to be held in foreign currency, mainly euros. However, the further depreciation of the European currency appears to have had a negative impact. In June, foreign currency deposits were recorded at around 777.4 billion lek from around 782.7 billion in May, or 5.3 billion lek less.
On the other hand, deposits in lek increased to about 765.6 billion lek, increasing by about 14.1 billion lek compared to the previous month.
