91 thousand passengers from Albania, to Dubai and Abu Dhabi/ Attacks in Iran block airspace. Other flights from Tirana, without problems

While the closure of airspace in the Middle East has caused global chaos in air transport, official data from Mother Teresa International Airport shows that passenger flows between Albania and the Persian Gulf have been significant during 2025.
52,123 passengers traveled to Dubai alone, while 38,745 passengers traveled to Abu Dhabi, with a total of almost 91 thousand passengers. Meanwhile, in January 2026, official data shows that 5,001 passengers traveled to Dubai, an increase of 52% compared to January 2025. These figures confirm that the sudden closure of airspace in the Middle East directly affects our country, affecting one of the destinations for Albanian travelers.
However, despite the massive disruptions caused by the US and Israeli attacks on Iran and Tehran's response, flights from Tirana to other international destinations are currently operating normally. So far, there have been no reports of delays or cancellations related to the situation in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, the closure of airspace is causing the largest global disruption to air transport, with planes, crews and passengers stranded around the world.
Hundreds of flights were canceled within 24 hours, hitting key intercontinental hubs like Dubai and Doha. Traffic remains paralyzed in several key Middle Eastern destinations and it is not yet known when normality will return.
