Montenegro is "invaded" by foreigners - Over 31,000 companies owned by foreign investors

Currently, 31,814 companies owned by foreign citizens operate in Montenegro, with revenues in 2024 reaching almost 199 million euros, according to data from the Tax Administration. Economic analysts estimate that such a number of companies is a logical consequence of the greater presence of foreigners in the country and is positive news for the economy.
“These citizens are employed in their own companies and thus do not exert pressure on the overall macroeconomic indicators and budgetary expenditures in Montenegro,” the experts explain. “In any case, when the number of companies increases, the gross domestic product potentially increases, and moreover, business destinations become more attractive to the eyes of other investors. The macroeconomic contributions of this process are very important,” they emphasize.
According to them, the state should lead this process with incentive measures, so that businesses expand into the areas most necessary for the development of Montenegro.
"If we look at it from a business perspective, every new environment or new people from different environments bring different cultural, sociological and even entrepreneurial habits. This also benefits the local population," the analysts underline.
According to official statistics, the majority of foreign companies are from Turkey, a full 33 percent or 9,818 companies. Russian-owned companies account for 24 percent or 7,200, while Serbia is in third place with 3,220 companies (11 percent).
They are followed by Ukraine, Germany and Italy. In terms of fields of activity, 24 percent of foreign companies are engaged in wholesale and retail trade, while 13.4 percent are engaged in construction.
