Kosovo production at risk, market full of Serbian goods - Kosovo Business Alliance: This is a "silent invasion"
Domestic production in Kosovo is at risk at a time when the market is flooded with Serbian goods. For the Kosovo Alliance, this is putting Kosovo's very economic independence at risk.
According to data published by this organization, imports from Serbia increased by over 118% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year from 50.64 million euros to 110.53 million euros. "Kosovo is facing a dangerous setback in economic and political terms. Imports from Serbia have increased alarmingly. This increase is not just an economic statistic, but a clear signal of the collapse of local producers," says a reaction from the AKB.
According to the AKB, this situation is a direct consequence of the lifting of restrictive measures against Serbian goods in October last year, which according to them was taken unconditionally by the Kosovo Government under pressure from international and Serbian factors. "An economy that allows the dominance of a state that does not yet recognize our independence is an economy that risks falling under the control of a trade structure without reciprocity and without clear protective criteria. Ironically, those who once protested against "Serbian barges" and against free trade with the state that denies the Republic of Kosovo, today remain silent, and even facilitate the massive entry of these goods," warns the AKB.
The Kosovo Business Alliance urgently calls for civic and institutional awareness to protect local production. It calls for the consumption of local products and for an economic strategy that promotes Kosovo's self-sustainability. But in his reaction to this stance, the acting Minister of Finance of Kosovo, Hekuran Murati, said that the import figures from Serbia have been misinterpreted.
