Trump declares ceasefire between Israel and Iran - US President announces end to

United States President Donald Trump announced that a "complete and total" ceasefire between Israel and Iran had been "fully achieved." Trump says the ceasefire is expected to begin in the coming hours after both countries "complete their ongoing missions!"

The US president announced in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, that the ceasefire would be implemented in phases over 24 hours. He also added that once it is complete, it will mark an "official end" to the 12-day war.

"Iran will begin a ceasefire and after 12 hours, Israel will cease fighting. After 24 hours, an official end to the 12-day war will be greeted by the World," Trump wrote.

The 47th US President noted that each side should remain "peaceful and respectful" during the ceasefire phase of each other, emphasizing that everything should run smoothly.

Trump congratulated both countries for reaching an agreement on what otherwise would have been a war that could have "lasted for years and destroyed the entire Middle East."

"God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and God bless the world!" Trump wrote.

The announcement comes shortly before he leaves for a NATO summit in the Netherlands, where he is expected to emphasize that his mix of aggression and diplomacy has succeeded.

A senior White House official said Trump communicated directly with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to secure the ceasefire. He added that the Qatari government played a significant role in brokering the ceasefire.

Trump thanked the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, for his support in reaching the agreement.

The Gulf state has also been one of the main mediators in the intermittent ceasefire and hostage negotiations between Israel and Hamas in their ongoing war in Gaza.

Iran has not publicly confirmed that a ceasefire has been agreed. In a post on X, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that currently "there is no agreement on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations."
