Trump in China, small delegation with CEOs - Beijing Summit planned for May 14-15

The White House has invited a reduced delegation of executives to accompany President Donald Trump to Beijing next week, sources familiar with the preparations said, reflecting divisions in the administration over economic policy toward China and limited expectations for the summit.
Unlike Trump's visit to China in 2017, when he was accompanied by 29 high-profile executives, the White House and Treasury considered inviting representatives from a handful of American companies.
According to sources, executives on the guest list for the May 14-15 trip include the CEOs of Nvidia, Apple, Qualcomm, Citigroup and Boeing. The CEOs will attend a state dinner with Trump, hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The invitations were sent at the last minute, due to disagreements within the administration over the size of the delegation.
This is a much smaller delegation than those other Western leaders have had on visits to Beijing. British Prime Minister Starmer was accompanied by a delegation of 60 business leaders on his visit in January, while German Chancellor Merz took 29 industry giants to China on his visit a month later.
Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, whose efforts to sell artificial intelligence chips in China have failed, said Tuesday he would join Trump's visit to China, "if invited." Other companies under consideration include major U.S. beef and soybean producers, the sources said.
Trump's last visit to Beijing in 2017 was filled with generosity and business deals. Xi gave him a rare private tour of the Forbidden City and promised deals worth more than $250 billion, including a $37 billion sale of 300 Boeing jets and energy projects totaling $69 billion.
Many of these agreements were non-binding memoranda of understanding or multi-year purchasing frameworks rather than outright contracts.
